Professional Canine Services is a veteran/law enforcement-owned dog training center. We offer over 45 years of experience working as law enforcement K-9 handlers, trainers, and supervisors training dogs in obedience, socialization, behavior modification, scent detection, tracking, protection, and more. Our classes are available for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
We are certified instructors with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia Police Canine Association as K-9 instructors and evaluators. We are also licensed by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Virginia Department of Health Professionals and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.

Our Philosophy
Professional Canine Services (PCS) operates on the core belief that no two dogs are alike, even within the same breed. Our training methodology rejects “cookie-cutter” programs in favor of a diagnostic approach that identifies each dog’s specific psychological profile.
PCS emphasizes a training philosophy where results are achieved through voluntary cooperation and trust. We believe advanced obedience can be reached without the use of force, fear, or coercion. We focus on teachability and the relationship between dog and handler. The goal is to develop a dog that is engaged and willing to learn. Our methods are designed to teach the dog to choose the correct behavior and empower the handler to become a better leader.

Customized Behavioral Evaluations: Every dog begins with a mandatory, one-hour initial evaluation. This session is used to determine the dog’s specific temperament, drives, and triggers.

Adapting to Learning Styles: Just like people, dogs process information differently. PCS adjusts its communication style—whether focusing on spatial pressure, verbal cues, or scent-based rewards—to match what the individual dog finds most motivating and least stressful.

Addressing Specific History: A dog with a history of trauma or aggression is handled with a different psychological lens than a puppy with a “clean slate.” The training for reactive dogs focuses on gradual exposure to environmentals at a pace the specific dog can handle without becoming overwhelmed.
By treating each dog as an individual and addressing the root psychological cause, PCS ensures that the training sticks because it works with the dog’s nature rather than against it!

Bryant Arrington
Founder and head instructor at Professional Canine Services. Has over 40 years of rich experience in K-9 handling. Currently in active law enforcement and trains on the national circuit with police working dogs. Bryant Arrington is the co-founder and past president of the Virginia Police K9 Associations, where he also serves as a Master Trainer and certified Decoy Instructor. Bryant teaches advanced K9 seminars to police teams across the United States and provides ongoing training for approximately 30 police dogs representing multiple agencies throughout Central and Western Virginia. He currently holds the rank of Captain over Special Operations within his law enforcement agency.
